Riding in a hot air balloon had been a big dream of mine for a long time. Finally, on the first day of 2020, I got to check it off my list in the beautiful island of Sri Lanka.
We showed up at the balloon spot around 5:30 in the morning. Friendly manager Imran welcomed us and handed out breakfast packs. The crew was busy inflating the balloon, which turned out to be way bigger than I’d imagined. Watching them blow it up was really cool.
At 6:00 am, we hopped into the basket, and our ride began. The pilot was really good at what he did. He chatted with all of us and answered our questions while he steered the balloon.
Seeing the sunrise from way up there was incredible. I can’t put into words how beautiful it was, so I started taking pictures.
Below us, we saw amazing things like mountains, little villages, green fields where they grow rice, and shiny lakes. It made me think that Sri Lanka truly is a paradise
I was a bit nervous before our hot air balloon adventure, but as soon as I stepped into the balloon, my fear melted away, and I began to truly savor the experience. After our flight, we were delighted to receive a customized flight certificate during the post-ride celebration.

- Is it cold up there?
- No ,It will be same as the ground temperature.
- Is it safe ?
- Yes, It is safe. Basket is big enough to carry 10-16 passengers. Pilot do all the safety measures before and during the ride.
- Is balloon ride suitable for kids?
- It is recommended for kids from age 6.But there is no restrictions as I know of ,You can contact the Srilankan Balloon for more details.
- Does it go faster?
- No, It is go slowly and steadly,Speed will be vary depending on the speed of the wind.
- How long is the ride?
- Approximately 1 hour.
- Where does it land?
- Since the fly area is influenced by the wind, there is no particular landing area. Pilot will determine a safe spot to land. Ground staff will follow through out the cause of flight and will reach the landing area for further assistance.
